Dynasty Travel Shanghai Night Annual Dinner & Dance 2011

Date: 18 January 2011
Venue: Grand Hyatt Singapore (Grand Ballroom)
Paxs: 300

Style! Emcee:

Tonight is a jubilant celebration for Dynasty Travel. They have successfully achieved S$100 million in sales, a huge milestone and a symbolic moment. Congratulations on the achievement~!

The event kicked off with balloon grandeur and the VIP popping the balloons one by one to commemorate their remarkable achievement. Guests and staff dressed up to the theme and the entire ballroom was transformed into the look and feel of the 40s in Shanghai!

The staff was impressive and devoted time to putting up a great performance. With limited time to choreograph and practice, the outcome of their Shanghai Musical was a resounding success.

The fun and games segment was something not to be missed. The invited guests were totally spontaneous and awesome in the stage games. I couldn't believe it~! Sometimes as the saying goes, "Still Water Runs Deep". When the invited guests started dancing to the music and giving their level best in keeping up to the challenge, everyone just went excitedly crazy, with fanatic applause!

With the great achievement to kick start the evening, the CNY Yu Sang Lo Hei, excellent speeches by the management and the guest speaker, the fun and games, the lucky draw; the event wrapped up on a high note with the company's mission and corporate cheer. Well done Dynasty Travel! :)

Endress+Hauser Staff Party 2011

Venue photo taken in the day. Scenic view all around!

Event: Endress+Hauser Staff Party 2011
Date: 13 Jan 2011
Venue: Skydeck Imbiah Sentosa

Style! emcee:

First of all, I have to say that although this is an outdoor setting, but the scenery and view after sunset is splendid. The venue is breezy and feels extremely comfortable and windy. Definitely a great place to knock a few ice cold with friends while enjoying the panoramic view and the breeze.

The crowd turned up for dinner after taking part in a team event at Desperados, in Sentosa. For those whom have not been there, Desperados is a cowboy virtual shooting simulator, where you are mounted onto a horse and trying to shoot some targets.

When the dinner event started, the Managing Director was very spontaneous and agreed to appear as the Colorful Man Transformation to kick-start the event and that raised everyone's spirit.

After the long service award, which I am very impressed by the Managing Director's sharing of the contributions by the recipients. He gave a detailed account for each one of them, which was very personalized and impressive!

As an emcee, this event presented a very good challenge for me. I completed a marathon game segment of an hour and the half. The outcome was good: The crowd took part in the games and everyone had a laughing good time!

We wrapped up the event with a loud resounding toast to wish everyone well for 2011 and also took a group photo for memory.

Thanks guys~!

In my Hawaiian attire, all ready for the event! :)

I was informed that I was featured in the local Chinese newspapers as an emcee hosting an event for Singaporeans and non-Singaporeans at the Countdown Party 2011 held at Tiong Bahru Park. The aim of the event is to welcome our non-Singaporean employees/ students/ visitors and integrate them into our local community, making them feel at home and a part of Singapore.

Great Eastern Sales Kickoff 2011

Event: Great Eastern Sales Kickoff 2011
Venue: Singapore Expo Hall 5
Time: 1.30pm - 5.30pm

Style! emcee:

This morning I woke up at 5.30am to practice my dance routine even though we were told to report at Expo Hall 5 at 9am. I wanted to make sure my steps are clean, sharp and neat, decided to forgo some sleep and went to the fitness first gym dance studio to polish up my moves.

Well, as a firm believer of practice makes perfect, I went through the routine at least 10 good times, pushing myself to improve and ensure that I look great on stage. I remembered the choreographer always telling us not to mark out steps but to give it "full out" with our heart and soul so that we will know our routines better.

I was fortunate to be selected during the audition to be among the good dancers. The rehearsals were pretty hectic and packed back to back daily. As the level of the dancers was quite high, I had to make sure I pulled up my socks and put in double the effort to do it well!

IT'S TRUE.... AS LONG AS YOU PUT YOUR HEART AND SOUL INTO IT, NOTHING IS IMPOSSIBLE.

I felt happy with my performance and I got good feedback from the choreographers. Happy!

Apart from my dance item, I was also the lead singer for the event's theme song. It was so cool singing to a crowd of 2000 paxs and with 60-80 back up dancers. The feeling is awesome and majestic!

Looking forward to the video and also my next big event!

OTO Bodycare Fitness Challenge cum Countdown 2011

Getting ready for the event

"Join us in the OTO Bodycare Fitness Challenge!"

"I have got great prizes to give away..."

Caught in action by the audience!

Event: OTO Bodycare Fitness Challenge cum Countdown 2011
Venue: Tiong Bahru Park
Time: 8:30pm - 12:00am

Style! Emcee:

I had a wonderful time hosting the OTO Bodycare Fitness Challenge, held at the Tiong Bahru Park as part of the Countdown 2011 Celebrations.

While on my way to the venue, rain started pouring in and it was quite worrying, thinking if the rain continues at this magnitude, nobody will turn up for the party. Thankfully, the weather turned out fine and the crowd came pouring into the park.

From 7.30pm onwards, the fitness challenge was very popular with young and old alike. Each team comprised of one Singaporean and a non-Singaporean. The purpose is to engage the community of non-Singaporean and make them feel at home. For the OTO Cruncher, the team has to do the maximum number of crunches within a minute. Take a look at the photo of the cruncher machine below. It is totally different from a normal crunching machine where you lie face up. But in this case, you lie face down and move your knees toward your chest.

I tried as well! And guess what? I managed to complete 104 crunches within a minute. Not bad for a first timer. From the photo above, the knees are placed between the lower 2 set of rollers and the arms are placed on the handle bars, gripping the handle bars similar to riding a racer bike.

Initially people were so shy and embarrassed to try. But given the lure of the prizes (total prizes given out was worth over $6000), many stepped forward and took the challenge. There were senior citizens as well as young kids, all stopping by to giving a try at the challenge.

Due to the overwhelming response of the contest, there was people trying to sign up even after we have closed the registration at 11:30pm. Given their enthusiasm, the organizing committee decided to extend a final round of 5 teams after the countdown was done.

During the final round after the countdown, the Guest of Honour, Mr Lui Tuck Yew, Minister for Information, Communications and the Arts, and MP for Tanjong Pagar GRC, visited the OTO booth and gave his support to the contestants sweating it out for the top prize.

For everyone at OTO Bodycare whom I worked with for the whole event, Happy New Year~!

Flash mob audition

style! emcee:

Today I went down for a dance audition to be part of a 100-man flash mob for an event in January. The audition was held at Danz People Studio @ Pomo (formerly known as Paradiz Centre). The participants split into 2 groups and within the 2 groups, we were shortlisted based on our ability to learn the dance steps by the choreographer and whether we have the flair/ personality.

The flash mob will dance to a tune of 4 pop songs, including Kesha's Tik Tok.

I am so happy, that after the shortlisted, I was selected for the A-list team, which means to say that this is the group of people that are able to dance better and will be dancing from the 1st to the last song. The rest of the groups B, C and D will be dancing shorter segments.

After we were shortlisted, we had to pit against the participants from the other group. This group is alot younger, and most of them were 18-20years old. Finally, we confirmed all the A-list members. Sad to say, I am one of the only three guys.

I was wearing long-sleeved shirt and black pants. Didn't expect the audition to be so long and strenuous that by the time I was done, my shirt was all wet.

But yes! I am so happy that I am in the A-list. Will practice and train hard, so that on the actual day, will be able to showcase and impress everyone around. Will also upload the video once I get it after the event.

Cheers,
style! emcee Richard

2010 Sulzer Pumps Dinner & Dance @ Traders Hotel (Singapore)

Event: 2010 Sulzer Pumps Dinner & Dance
Date: 10 December 2010
Venue: Traders Hotel (Singapore)
Theme: Weirdo Night

style! emcee:

A big thank you to the organizing committee (Shirley, Barbara, Wendy, and group) for taking great efforts and going to great length to put together the event. I salute you guys for the hard work put in to give everyone in the company a really really good time!

The theme for the D&D was weirdo night and all the guests came in different fashion. There was a Bob Marley look-alike, babies in diapers, rock star, Chinese traditional costume, angel, witch and many many more! The more people take the effort to dress up, the better it becomes. The atmosphere, the mood, the setting, all blended in extremely well.

Although there were only 60 in the audience, but it certainly felt like there were 600 within the audience, with people dancing, cheering, laughing!

We did a bingo segment and played with real money, and the lucky winners walked away with their ROI (return on investment) of more than 3200%!

Throughout the games, the audience were so spontaneous and it just went on and on. Each one got bold and bolder and shook their booty like nobody's business!

I am thankful for the wonderful crowd. At the Oscar's, the emcee is just the prize presenter. The real stars are those seated within the audience. To all my friends in Sulzer Pumps, thank you for making me part of your event and I certainly enjoyed myself with each one of you!

I am Simon Cowell today!

Dear readers,

Today was an interesting day for me. I was asked to be a judge for a company's talent time audition as part of their selection for the finalists whom will perform at the company's dinner and dance in Jan 2011.

Interestingly, most of the contestants were foreigners. I begin to understand why there is a need for foreign talents. I was dumbfounded by the level of talents and creativity of the contestants. From song to dance to musical, you can imagine how thrilled and impressed I was with each contestant. These guys are good~!

So, we tried to en-act Singapore's Idol (Foreign talent version), I conducted some interview with them outside the audition studio with our videographer. I have the encouraging and supportive personality, so gave all the contestants assurance and after their performance, shared with them some pointers on how to further improve.

When the resuls were released, you could see the joy in their faces, especially some took leave to practice, while some went to the extent of coordinating on the outfits. I wished I could have everyone in the finals (because it was so great to watch each one of them), but I guess that's the nature of competition - Not everyone wins.

We had the program meeting and I am honored to be hosting with a Mediacorp artiste (shall not reveal who for now. Wait for my video~!). With a 1,400 pax Dinner and Dance, we are going to rock and roll!

Update everyone again~!

Converge Asia 2010 Year End Celebration (Hard Rock Cafe @ Resort World Sentosa)

Event: Converge Asia 2010 Year End Celebration
Date: 03 December 2010
Venue: Hard Rock Cafe @ Resort World Sentosa
Theme: Occupation Costumes!

style! emcee's note:

Question: What do you get when you mix a seemingly mild and dovey-looking crowd with good food, drinks and loads of music and fun?

Answer: A wild night of party and lots of spontaneity. You guys blew my mind~!

As the emcee for the night, I reached Hard Rock Cafe (HRC) at around 5pm, together with my coordinator and account executive Joshua (from RiTZ Events). The whole cafe was booked and nicely decorated. The committee members (Andy, Azlina and Zita) were already there, ensuring that last minute details and preparations were not overlooked. We ran through the program and locked in all last minute changes.

"Okay, it looks like we're all ready to rock and roll and bring the house down" - I said.

Even though the rain was pouring and the entry into RWS was really jam-packed, the crowd came in and everyone got settled in, in no time. Tables started filling up with drinks and chatty voices. The adrenaline was growing within the crowd. The guests came in all sort of costumes, including master chef, soldier, gothic french maid, cheerleader, nurse, basketball player and many more.

7.45pm - "Alright Richard, we are set to go. Kick start the show!" - Andy, one of the members from the organizing committee

I went in with my Afro-looking Bob Marley wig and a pair of dark sunglasses looking like Korean K-pop star Rain. "Hi Everyone, my name is Brain (Bob and Rain)". It was hilarious.

I did some introduction and got everyone all hyped out for the evening. Invited the VIP on stage to deliver the opening address and of course, everyone was famished and we dived into the sumptuous spread of 20+ variety of buffet spread.

The stage program resumed with the awards ceremony for outstanding staff performance in the month of October. (This is good HR practice I feel. Monthly award to motivate staff to constantly outperform themselves.)

I started the night with a little ice-breaker and got everyone moving around passing envelopes. It was just so fun to see everyone trying to avoid the envelopes, thinking that some kind of forfeit was waiting for them. Somehow when people start moving instead of seated on their chairs, the energy starts flowing and they start feeling really excited about the whole event.

The next segment was the in-house band belting out great songs with the audience dancing and moving to the beat on the dance floor. (Did I mention that I love the song by Justin Bieber - Baby?) One of the guest volunteered to sing a song and he sang Eric Clapton's Wonderful Tonight. Cool!

The games segment continued and the crowd's participation and interaction grew more and more intense. (In emceeing, this is is the best part once you strike it off with the audience. I always look forward to this moment and I called it the "tipping point".)

Stand-up Joke: 1 in 10 Singaporeans are obese
- I think the statistics did not include the crowd here. Else, the ratio would be 1 in 20.
- As the situation gets more severe, the government may introduce a slew of measures to curb the situation:
- Compulsory health screening for all Singaporeans (similar to yearly car inspection)
- Introduction of CC ratio to determine COE and road tax
- CC ratio stands for Ca Chng ratio. COE stands for Certificate of Enlargement. Road tax is "rou" tax

At 10.40pm, I announced to the crowd that the bus will be leaving and I was surprised that many of them stayed behind to continue the fun! So to reward those whom stayed behind. I played this comedy stage acting game which I originated, called "Mi-lo Ice Cream " and got the crowd laughing on their belly. (A pity it wasn't recorded down)

The event ended on a high note and I am so glad to have been part of their celebration. Thank you Converge Asia!

**To everyone at Coverge Asia, you may find me on Facebook at http://facebook.com/style.emcee.richard. Looking forward to all your postings and photos of the event!

Interview on Radio 1003

Date: 26 Nov 2010

Time: 7.30pm - 8.00pm

Radio Station: Radio 100.3

Hi everyone!

Guess what? I was asked to be part of this SDN dating show hosted on radio 1003 this evening. The game plan was for me to get to know these 2 lovely ladies whom the deejays (Jianwen and Limei) called. One of them was known 爱爱 and the other her pet name was 绿草.

The entire segment was so fun and as it was my first time on national radio talking about myself, my expectations about my life partner, etc. I was totally unprepared!

And after the conversations with the 2 lovely ladies, I was asked which one of them I think I would like to get to know better. Both were equally good, but still had to choose one. So I went with my instinct and said the first lady. In any case, at the end of these series of programs, there is going to be a big gathering and I would get to meet all of them, including the guys and gals from the different episodes. Hehe, and boy! I am sure it would be really exciting~!

Here are some photos taken in the studio to share with everyone:

style! emcee:

Zumba really rocks! For just 15minutes, and I was perspiring from top to toe. But it was so fun, seeing so many participants all geared up and enjoying themselves at the event. dancing and moving to the beats.

Apart from the Zumba dance sessions, 6 teams walked away with fabulous Watson's goodie bags after participating in the Zumba Battle of the best contest.

We were honoured to have Associate Professor Fatimah Lateef (MP for Marine Parade GRC and Advisor to Marine Parade GRC GROs) to grace the event and her enthusiasm in putting up on stage a Zumba performance.

The success of the event was brought about by People's Associate Life Skills & Lifestyle Divisions, Zumba Fitness and the following Community Clubs:

1. Pasir Ris Elias Community Club
2. Sengkang Community Club
3. Punggol Par k Community Centre
4. Geylang Serai Community Centre
5. Pasir Ris East Community Club
6. Rivervale Community Club
7. Punggol 21 Community Centre

I totally enjoyed hosting the event and joining in the fun games segment. The finale workout, I was pulled in by Mike & Marta. Zumba is real fun~!

Halloween Night @ Tampines North

The event was a great success! The families came with kids all dressed up in various costumes. One of the special highlight of the event was fancy dress costume contest, using only recycled material. The "go-green" idea was well-received and a very innovative idea by the organizing committee to link Halloween with being environmentally friendly. Well done! I met great people within the organizing committee, Shahreen, Ken Toh and Angela Ho. Very delightful people and certainly filled with zest. Contributing their time and effort to organize and make this a great success for the community. Well done! There were performances by Vivian as Sweetheart the Balloon Witch and also Alfred the Magician. It was so much fun for the kids~! Happy Halloween to all!!
