Marine Parade NPC Community Policing System (COPS) Launch

Event: Marine Parade Neighbourhood Police Centre (NPC) Community Policing System (COPS) Launch
Venue: Marine Parade

Emeritus Senior Minister Goh Chok Tong
Grassroots Advisor for Marine Parade GRC

SPF is embarking on the new Community Policing System (COPS) that allows frontline resources to be more nimble, focused and responsive in fighting crime and at the same time deeply engage the community.

COPS is part of SPF’s continuous efforts to improve and stay abreast of changes in the operating environment. The plan is aimed at enhancing SPF’s capabilities to prevent, deter and detect crime with additional resources pumped to the frontline for crime fighting and community engagement. Developments in information technology and camera technology also offer opportunities to do things better and more efficiently.

Although SPF’s operational results have shown improvements, these changes are necessary to further improve on the already-low crime rates in Singapore and gear up Police to the next level to meet the challenges of a changing society.

At the same time, the public’s expectations of Police are also shifting. The public no longer expects Police to merely respond to and solve crime, but to also take more proactive steps in preventing and deterring crime through more presence on the ground and interactions with the community.

Capitaland Hope Foundation and People's Association Kids' Food Fund 2015

Event: Capitaland Hope Foundation and People's Association Kids' Food Fund 2015
Venue: Westgate

Welcome to the Kids’ Food Fund 2015 event, jointly brought to you by CapitaLand Hope Foundation and the People’s Association.  This collaboration is an initiative of We Care PALs, and Project We Care, where our community partners like CapitaLand Hope Foundation join hands with PA on meaningful projects that benefit our residents.

Today, we are here to celebrate the second year of Kids’ Food Fund programme in partnership with the five Community Development Councils, which is aimed at enhancing the nutritional well-being of underprivileged children in Singapore. Since its launch in 2013, it had benefited over 1,000 young beneficiaries through five Community Development Councils (CDCs).

The “Kids’ Food Fund” programme centres around the idea of “One Healthy and Balanced Meal, Every School Day, For a Year”. Young beneficiaries, aged 7 to 16 years old would be able to have at least a healthy meal per day for every single school day for 2015. We are also here today to celebrate the 10th Anniversary of CapitaLand Hope Foundation.

Every year, CapitaLand allocates up to 0.5% of its net profit to the Foundation to promote social growth and development of underprivileged children with respect to their education, healthcare and shelter needs. CapitaLand Hope Foundation strongly believes each child has within them the potential for greatness, which if nurtured and built upon, can bring significant value to future societies.

Kids’ Food Fund is CapitaLand Hope Foundation’s first programme in 2015 to celebrate the Foundation’s 10th Anniversary.

Singapore Turf Club Annual Dinner and Dance 2015

Event: Singapore Turf Club Annual Dinner and Dance 2015
Venue: Orchard Hotel Singapore

I visited the Singapore Turf Club at Kranji for the first time when I went for a pre-event emcee meeting with the organisers. I was filled with excitment, thinking that I will get a chance to do the Gangnam style dance right in the stable as how PSY did it in his music video!

This evening, hosting the dinner and dance for over 600 staff at the Orchard Hotel Singapore, one of my favourite hotel ballrooms. It is huge, high ceiling, pillarless and can accomodate a huge seating capacity. I am pretty lucky that I had the chance to host 4-5 events in the same ballroom so far this year! Became friends with some of the hotel staff already!

The Ngee Ann Kongsi 170th Anniversary and SG50 Celebration Dinner

Event: The Ngee Ann Kongsi 170th Anniversary and SG50 Celebration Dinner
Venue: Chui Huay Lim Club

Guest of Honour
Mr Tharman Shanmugaratnam
Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Finance

Brief background on Ngee Ann Kongsi
Ngee Ann Kongsi was a self-help organisation founded by the late Mr Seah Eu Chin and a group of Teochew merchants in 1845. It was started to look after the religious and welfare needs of Teochew immigrants in Singapore with the first ofice set up at Yueh Hai Ching Temple at Phillip Street. As the Teochew community grew and flourished, Kongsi started to focus on the needs of the young, particularly in education.

Over the 170 years, the Ngee Ann Kongsi has built up a sterling reputation for its committment to serving its community and participating in development of education in Singapore. This includes the establishment of numerous scholarships and bursaries.

This evening we are gathered here to celebrate the significant milestone of success and achievement for Ngee Ann Kongsi in its mission to support and fund initiatives in developing education over the past 170 years. I would consider myself the fortunate and lucky generation after the baby boomers and have benefited from getting access to education, books, computers and trainings that both my parents and grandparents did not. I am thankful for what I am today because of education.

Sin Hin Hang Logistics Chinese New Year Dinner 2015

Event: Sin Hin Hang Logistics Chinese New Year Dinner 2015
Venue: Sin Hin Hang Logistics

It's always a great pleasure to be hosting for friends. When I first hosted for Sin Hin Hang (SHH) back in 2011, it was like any other events. But over the course of the next 3-4 years, I have been hosting every year for them. Tonight is my 4th time. Janet, Ah Soon, Catherine, Paik Hong, Peter, Nomi, Simon, Jeremy, just to name a few. Hosting as a career is both rewarding (for a great successful outcome) and also transient. People come and go in our lives, sometimes they know us better than we know them. But when you know their names and faces, you know it is whole lot closer to your heart.

Thank you Sin Hin Hang. Wishing everyone a great successful year in 2015!

Hitachi JP1 Chinese New Year Appreciation Lunch 2015

Event: Hitachi JP1 Chinese New Year Appreciation Lunch 2015

Today I'm hosting for the clients of Hitachi JP1 just before I head down to Singapore Flyer for Chingay. I'm delighted to have the opportunity to work with Hitachi JP1 for their appreciation lunch this year.

As the Chinese New Year celebration and festivity run towards the 15th day, many of my friends have started work and children back to school. However, the jubilation and excitement can still be felt everywhere!
