This week stage set up was amazing! Eastpoint Mall has set up a huge backdrop to spice up the Chinese New Year atmosphere, making the entire event a huge roar with the crowd!
To add to the atmosphere, we had a special guest or should I say a heavenly guest?God of Wealth (aka "Cai Shen") in East Point???... Look closely~!
God of Wealth was ushered into Eastpoint Mall to the popular tune of "财神到" and everyone was so eager to get a little gold coin for some luck in the new year. As the chinese believe that getting the gold coin will bring them luck for the whole year. (See! I am not passing up the chance too!)
Style! emcee played the acting game with some adorable kids on stage. The children had a chance to be the "Little God of Wealth" on stage, walking and acting as if they were the real God of Wealth! The audience had a good time being entertained by the young ones.
The second segment of the program was the chinese magic show. This chinese magic is a different twist to the typical magic shows that we see at dinner and dance, shopping malls and other events. It was a good experience for the audience and the kids.

Apart from magic show, there was also another juggling show by this juggler whom have been juggling for the past 20 years as his personal hobby. He explained the history of juggling and shared his passion for juggling with the children.
The finale of the event was the game of forming a chinese character with the mandarin oranges slices. There were 3 teams and each team was given 4 oranges and a sticky board. They are judged on both speed and accuracy of forming the chinese character with the slices pasted on the sticky board. Take a look at the winning team's artistic work!

Style! Emcee:
If you think these tough guys taking care of Singapore's busiest land checkpoint have dead serious personalities... Well, we saw the jovial, merry making side of them!
The sumptuous food and drinks were the fanfare overture opening of the event. All the guests had a delightful surprise when style! emcee announced "Dinner will now commence" right at the start of the event. In all events, there would generally be the opening speech and other formal segment, but this was the unique way of starting the event! As the saying goes, "Before all else happen, always put food in the tummy".
Roaring in the crowd was the famous and whimsical "Mustafa from Bombay, India", a character played by Rahim whom have been performing for more than 10 years. He delighted the crowd with songs and dances woven in while relating his life as Mustafa. Everyone loosened up and started clapping, cheering and crackling as Rahim unleashed his ammunition of jokes.
Next performance was by Nick the Magician. The beauty of performing magic tricks is the audience's interaction. Nick stunned the crowd with the Hand Chopper and invited a member of the audience to participate. The participant was looking terrified that his hand would be severed for real!
"In Singapore, there are only 3 magicians who can do the Hand Chopper successfully. I am trying to be the fourth one."
"Don't worry sir, if you lose your hand, you can always go to the 2nd-hand shop."
Finally it's time for the emcee to be in action! The emcee started his fun games segment with some acting and mimicking of famous movie stars. The guests whom participated left the rest ofthe audience laughing on their stomach when they try their hands at acting. It's hilarious!
With the mood heightened up and everyone's enjoying themselves, style! emcee delivered his next game, a combination of singing, dancing and table games. Surprisingly, the one who was most gamed for action, receiving the loudest encore and applause, was the oldest participant! He almost took the house down when he got into actions, dancing and singing like Ricky Martin! Impressive!
The finale of the event was a three cheers shout-out led by the emcee. Everyone united their spirit and commaderie as one big family, giving their best shout out.
Hip hip... Hurray!

Eastpoint Mall Celebrates Chinese New Year - Part 1
Event: Eastpoint Mall Chinese New Year Celebration
Date: 13th Jan 08
Time: 3pm - 6pm
Venue: Eastpoint Mall
Style! Emcee:
Eastpoint Mall is celebrating Chinese New Year over the next 3 weeks! There will be a variety of entertainment, games and giveaways for everyone at Eastpoint Mall.
Last sunday we saw the first event kicked off at Eastpoint. The crowd was treated to a myriad of shows such as the Eastpoint Fashion Show with models showcashing the latest style from This Fashion. The models donned fashion suited for various occassions ranging from office, casual to party.
The next item was a group of Singaporeans whom have been trained since young to perform chinese acrobatic acts. They demonstrated various acrobatic acts and the audience also had the chance to be part of their performance. Some of the tricks and stunts include, Face-Changing, Balancing acts, Swinging 20 Hula hoops and some acts of human contortions. Impressive!
Another well-received item was the Chinese Zodiac Balloon Sculpting where children had the opportunity to be given a sculpted balloon according to their year of birth. There was a long queue of children eagerly waiting for their turn. (Hey kids, if you missed your chance, don't worry. We will be there every week. So come join us!)
Style! Emcee hosted the event with the finale game of "Peeling Mandarin Oranges and forming the auspicious chinese word". 3 teams comprising of one parent and one kid took part in this contest. And guess what? We had a non-chinese team and it was their first time learning and writing a chinese character. The crowd was impressed with their ability to recognise their strokes and for putting the slices of oranges to form the word and gave them a huge round of applause. Cool!
If you missed out last sunday, don't worry. Come and join us this sunday!

This is my first event in 2008!
Whenever I am asked whether it is easy to host an event for 1000 or 100, I always feel that it is more challenging to host an event for 100. An entire event without any performance except games and entertainment by the emcee is what I affectionately call it as "The Emcee's Test". Coupled with an audience of less than 100 pax, it is certainly a good routine for me to put my mettle to the test.
This event was certainly a good challenge with great success!
I started the first segment of fun and games with a simple table game. One advantage of small group setting is that it allows me to play a whole myriad of games that involved interaction among various tables. An event of more than 10 tables would not be as flexible and nimble to conduct table interaction games.
After the short warm up, getting the audience's attention and mood into fun and games, the first game was welcomed with great anticipation. Audience were treated to a splendid show of acting , mimicking and dancing by both the participants and I. The first entertainment segment lasted for 35minutes and the crowd was spontaneously cheering and laughing.
The next segment was the award presentation. One unique award was the Healthy Award, given to employees with zero medical leave within the entire year.
The 2nd fun game segment was a question and answer format. In this segment, I tested the audience's knowledge on songs of various genre. The crowd was totally awesome. Members of the audience were running towards the stage to give their answers and some were shouting the answers from their seats!
As it is with every dinner celebration, the finale is the lucky draw. The lucky draw numbers were placed in red packets (I guess Chinese New Year is coming) and audience were given the number of red packets based on the years of service. The prizes were simply fantastic!
The event ended on a high note with the audience giving loud applause for me as the emcee. I felt very appreciated and glad that everyone had a good time tonight.
What a great start to the new year~!!

Nielsen Dinner & Dance 2007: Masquerade
Event: Nielsen Dinner & dance 2007
Theme: Masquerade
Date: 14th Dec 2007
Venue: Holiday Inn Singapore
Pax: ~180
Style! Emcee:
The committee this year decided to organise the D&D with the theme Masquerade. All the tables were set up with black table cloth and black seat covers. It suited impeccably well, especially together with the chandeliers that hanged from the ceiling. The entire setup delivered an impressive gothic and sombre feel when one walks into the ballroom.
The regional director gave everyone a pleasant surprise when he entered the ballroom in his Phantom of the Opera costume. The soundtrack was played and everyone had a wonderful surprise. The chandeliers on the ceiling complemented his entrance and suited very well together with the original plot of the story.
Style! mc started the evening with a simple warm up (milking the cow) after everyone had a serious conference prior to the dinner. The crowd surprisingly was receptive to the warm up even when dinner was served at 8 plus. It was a nice endeavor to transit the event from a serious conference to a fun-filled D&D.
The crowd was simply mad! The first round of games (movie star) got everyone involved and you could feel the entire atmosphere lifted up. Everyone was then tested on their knowledge of movies soundtracks. Real fun!
The highlight of the evening was the Best Dressed Female and Best Dressed Table. In line with their theme, there were tables of people whom came in similar attires and battled it out to win the Best Dressed Table contest! There were the crooks & baddies, impersonation, hot devils, beauty queens and dragon ladies (resemble Uma Thurman in Kill Bill).
Best Dressed Female was a real shocker. To my surprise, some ladies were giving their best shot and showing all their hot moves. Impressive! The lady whom took away the champion title got standing ovation from everyone on the floor.
The final finale item was a lightstick light-up ceremony. Everyone was given a light stick to connect within their group and ultimately from their respective groups to connect into one big Nielsen circle. The circle symbolised their commonalities of goals achieiving, commaderie, and most important the ability to unite as one big Nielsen Family.
After the final lucky draw, although the participants were still enjoying their desserts, style! emcee gave the crowd a good reason to dance by conducting a mass dance for everyone. Everyone learnt the Ketchup Dance and had a good time working out those excessive calories!
As it is never complete to send well-wishings and blessings during this festive season, style! emcee initiated a mass birthday song for the lucky December babies. I am sure it must have been memorable and significant to have 180 people in the audience to sing the Happy Birthday tune.
To my amazement, the regional managing director stayed after the dinner and got his feets and hands boogie-ing on the dance floor!
It was a great event and definitely many would agree that they had an awesome load of fun!
**If you are one of the attendees, please drop me a comment. Thanks!**
Equinix Asia Pacific Dinner & Dance 2007: Movie World
Event: Equinix Asia Pacific Dinner & Dance 2007
Theme: Movie World
Date: 7th Dec 07
Venue: Rendezvous Hotel
Pax: ~80
Style! Emcee:
This Dinner & Dance is what I call hot hOT HOT! The type of D&D that gets everyone moving, including the senior management table. Impressive spirit!
The evening started with the VIP Guest's speech. But prior to his speech, he was accompanied by a Tequila Girl whom shot Tequila into his mouth using a water pump gun! Cool!
After all the speeches, it was time for dinner. At this point in time, everyone was very quiet and the entire atmosphere was very serious. Halfway through the dinner, it was time for the fun games segment. Style! emcee kicked off the games with some warm up and teasers. Participants were pulled out from the crowd to be Movie stars and had to walk and act exactly like the characters that they were given. The entire room was filled with laughter at this point as the participants were acting out the characters in a comical manner. Very entertaining to kick off the evening!
Throughout the dinner, more games were being played and everyone started loosening up and participating in the games, either by cheering their team mates or being part of the entertainment. There were quizzes, acting, singing, dancing and best of all was the best dressed contest. The ladies were very sporting and gave the guys a good time laughing and clapping to support the lady of their choice. In fact, the surprise came when the most demure and sweet looking lady walked away with the Best Dressed Female. She was dressed in a nice white dress, with a headgear made of beats. Beautiful! The moment the music ran, she was totally sexy.
The Men's segment of Best Dressed was even more appetizing. After the first round of everyone showing off their dance, stance, costume, it was now for the best part. We had to pick one winner out of the two . Both of them were given 15seconds to show whatever they are capable of. The moment they music dropped, it was just pure exhilaration and joy watching them in action. The Best Dressed Champion threw in a 1980's break dance popping routine and got everyone laughing on their belly. He was simply comical! Even the finalist contender whom was the MD himself, said he admitted that the Best Dressed Champion was totally awesome.
The evening ended with the lucky draw. As each of the participant had a lucky draw prize, when it was time to draw the winner for the first prize, there wasn't any lucky draw names in the glass bowl. The organizers gave the final decision that everyone (including those whom won) can take part in this final top 2 prizes lucky draw, and they poured all the names back into the lucky draw bowl. It was fantastic as everyone now get a chance to win the top prize.
The whole event ended when the VIP gave away his special gift that he bought. It was the lucky birthday girl as well as the Best Dressed Female who got it. Looks like she's really lucky tonight.
To close off the event with a memorable finale, the VIP gave 3 hiphip hurray cheers to everyone!

Event: Kampong Chai Chee Family BBQ & Campfire Night
Date: 1st Dec 2007
Venue: Amphitheatre @ Blk 138 Bedok North St 2
Pax: ~1000

It was the first time that a mass BBQ event with 200 BBQ pits were organized for the residents in Kampong Chai Chee. Just the setup of 200 pits was indeed an uphill task. There was also a campfire setup in the centre of the venue by the students from Ping Yi Secondary School
When the VIP and distinguished guests came, The entire place was pitched dark so that the campfire will look majestic and well ablaze. The residents did a countdown and the VIP initiated the light up ceremony. The entire atmosphere was filled with the spirit of campfire and the girl guides led the crowd through a repertoire of traditional campfire songs.
The rest of the evening was filled with performances. The main highlight of the evening was the song and dance segment by Er Gu. She sang chinese oldies with a cha-cha beat and all the aunties and uncles got to their feet, tapping to the cha-cha rhythm. The entire atmosphere can be described as if we were transported by to the cha-cha a-go-go days! *cool!*
The VIP conducted the lucky draw and my goodness, a lucky resident walked away with a High Definition 32" LCD TV! Just imagine as she is setting up her LCD in her living room right now, enjoying it every minute!
As an emcee, the residents were awesome. I had a wonderful time interacting and hosting the evening.

Bayview Hotel Singapore Dinner & Dance 2007
Event: Bayview Hotel Singapore
Theme: Bayview Idol
Date: 30th Nov 2007
Venue: Bayview Hotel
Pax: ~80
Style! Emcee:
Bayview Hotel's concept of Dinner and Dance this year was very different. It was also a night of great courageous performance by many of their staff. This year's theme known as the Bayview Idol gave great opportunities to the staff to showcase their great vocals. There were a good repertoire of English oldies, chinese pop songs, malay and even tamil songs. A special item was put up by their staff from Bali who did an impromptu performance of an indonesian folk song.
The real highlight of the show was when their GM came on the stage to deliver the evergreen chinese hit "The Moon Represents My Heart" made popular by Theresa Tseng. Our distinguished guest, after much encouragement and support by the staff, finally stood up and delivered his rendition of Bees Gees "I started A Joke". The entire ballroom was filled with thunderous applause.
Even after the event ended followed by the open-mic session, many of the staff stayed behind to enjoy themselves and sang to their hearts' content.

SRJC Prom Night 2007: The Red Carpet
Event: SRJC Prom Night 2007 - The Red Carpet
Date: 27th Nov 2007
Venue: Fullerton Hotel Ballroom
Pax: 300 ~ 400
Congratulations! You have made it! Finally, it's graduation and party time!
The event started on a high note, with the principal Mr Tan Teck Hock encouraging everyone to have a good time and most importantly to enjoy themselves tonight
This year's theme 'The Red Carpet' is the brainchild of the organizing committee. The committee came together because each one of them wanted to organize a Prom Night for all graduates.
Style! Emcee started the evening with some light warm up games and jokes to get everyone to let their hair down and kick start the tempo in the ballroom. The organizing committee put together the SRJC Next Top Model show after drawing inspirations from the TV Show America's Next Top Model. The Prom King and Prom Queen had their chance to sashay and showcase their flair and glamour.
The hightlight of the show came when Style! Emcee sent the crowd into a frenzy with the Mr Personality and Ms Personality. Nominations came from almost every table! As the crowd got more and more excited, cheering and shouting to support their favorites, Style! Emcee decided to leave the decision of choosing the winner to the VIP. It was pandamonium! Both male finalists battled their way and rocked the house with their display of hot and sensuous moves.
The finale of the night was the grand prize for the lucky draw. Surprisingly, after a long guessing and shouting of every number, when the number was announced, the winner was not around. Everyone had a second chance!
The party was not over. To the audience surprise, the organizing committee made the announcement that they have made special arrangement with a clubbing joint in Boat Quay to hold a post prom night party. Just when everyone thought that the party was over... Viola!
**If you are one of the prom night attendees, do drop me a comment. Thanks!**
Dinner & Dance 2007!
Style! Emcee says:
It is the time of the year when companies and schools celebrate graduations, anniversaries, business successes and alumni reunion!
As a freelance emcee, this is the busiest time of the year, with lots of emceeing/hosting engagements, which also brings along loads of preparation and getting ready to thrill the audience!
To all D&D committees / events organisers:
If you are preparing for your dinner and dance, don't be late in getting an emcee. Because as it draws nearer and nearer the date, it will be harder and harder to engage an emcee for your dinner/event.
Some of us do have a smaller budget to work with for engaging a D&D emcee. If you are, you may like to get in touched with me at (richardsiaw@gmail.com).
NOW... It's Showtime!

Children's Day & World Animal Day @ Suntec City Mall
Event: Happy Kidz Children's Day & World Animal Day
Venue: Suntec City Mall Level 3
Date: 30th Sep 2007 - 7th Oct 2007
Time: 12pm - 8pm

Style! Emcee:
I hosted the first opening day of this event and kicked start this event with families gathering around to learn and know more about the endangered animals and wildlife conservation initiatives led by our Singapore Zoo. The kids were treated to a great time of interaction with flurry animals such as bunnies, hamsters, dogs etc. In addition, the fair had 2 major tenants (Pet Fuze and Pet Village). There were great promotions and new products launches.
The main highlight of the event is when the dog owners brought their pet for a "PET WALK CONTEST". These dogs came in different outfits and dressings, all ready to capture the attention of the audience. One dog was able to do the hand gesture for "Gong Xi Gong Xi", while another dog was able to dance with the owner.
A very strong message came from one of the contestants. She had an ailing dog which was blind and had to be on drip twice a day. She said this to the audience "Even if the dog is sick and ailing, you should never never abandon them." These words shook the audience and she came in first place with her ailing dog.
All of the dogs were exceptionally well-groomed and well-loved by the audience. It is very obvious the love, concern and time devoted to their pets are simply unfathomable.
If you have a nice pet, bring it down to Suntec Happy Kidz Level 3. This weekend (6-7 Oct) the fair will still be on.
The event ended with a visual treat of Magic and Puppet Show by Captain Dazzle.

Wedding @ Swissotel The Stamford
Event: Wedding Dinner
Venue: Swissotel The Stamford
Date: 23rd Sept 2007 (Sunday)
Saturday! @ Keat Hong
Event: Mid-Autumn Festival Celebration
Date: 22nd September 2007
Venue: Blk 454 Choa Chu Kang
Tonight event was simply wonderful! Not only did I have the chance to host the Mid-Autumn Festival for friends and residents in Choa Chu Kang, I had a chance to host some of our young talented "getai" singers.
Egena Fu Jing Wen was simply terrific with her rendition of "醒来吧!雷蒙娜" Her overall stage presence and outlook did not reveal that she was new in this field. At her young age of 17, impressive! Not only was her voice good, but her expression and actions accorded her with a standing ovation especially when she collapsed onto the ground at the end of her song.
Another outstanding performance was by this duo female group called M2, comprises of Michelle and Mikiyo. They too left the audience adrenaline-pumping with the song "Bad Boy" by 张慧妹.
This is my first time hosting on a 4-sided stage without any backdrop. The feeling was awesome, knowing that you can have 360 degrees interaction with the audiences!
**If you have attended this event, drop me a line. Thanks**
Looking forward to my next event next week. Will update again!
Cheers!

COMEX 2007
Event: Gain City @ Comex 2007
Date: 30th August 2007 - 2nd September 2007
Venue: Suntec City Exhibition Centre Level 4-6
Nature: Products Roadshow/Fair
COMEX and IT SHOW are Singapore's largest and biggest Computer and IT Exhibitions. COMEX 2007 attracted more than 700,000 visitors over 4 days.
To be a successful emcee at roadshows and fairs, Style! Emcee recommends:
1. Keep your sentences short and succinct. Long sentences will confuse the crowd and reduce the impact of the information
2. Key information like offer price, product model are important, but don't over-emphasize them repeatedly.
3. Allay the worries and fears of shoppers by reassuring them with other information such as product key specifications and benefits, other services provided and any other information that can turn them from "warm to hot" shoppers
4. Inject punchlines like "Hey, all of you are staring so hard at the TV, the images are jumping out already!". Be creative as a light jovial moment can help to inspire purchase
5. Have fun!
(If you have more great info to share, please add your comments)
"Everyone can speak. Make an inspiration to someone today!"
